The Rashtriya Military Schools (RMS) are bifurcated into five institutions all across the country, namely in:

Rashtriya Military Schools (RMS)
The schools are category ‘A’ establishment of the Army and are administrated by the Directorate General of Military Training at IHQ of MOD(Army). The Central Governing Council (CGC), headed by the Defence Secretary, Ministry of Defence is the apex body for these schools. RMS institutions are all-boys boarding schools, affiliated with the Indian Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE). The first school established of the five RMS was Chail Military School in 1922, followed by Ajmer Military School in 1930, followed by Belgaum Military School in 1945, followed by Bengaluru Military School in 1946, lastly followed by Dholpur Military School in 1962. All the RMS institutions offer education from classes VI to XII. Cadets are admitted into class VI and IX. Each and every one of these institutions focusses on both the academic as well as extra-curricular progress of each and every cadet. All round development and growth of each cadet is prioritized.

The Campus of Rashtriya Military Schools (RMS)
- Bengaluru Military School: The campus is spread over 68 acres of land. The school has modern infrastructure and quality facilities. The school has a state-of-the-art sports complex including an Olympic size swimming pool.
- Belgaum Military School: The campus is spread over 64.13 acres of land. The campus has state of the art infrastructure and includes library, academic blocks, computer laboratories, art gallery and an all-religion worship place called Sarva Dharma Sthal.
- Chail Military School: The school facilitates updated infrastructure, alongside state-of-the-art training facilities. It is the first and the oldest establishment of all the RMS institutions.
- Dholpur Military School: The campus has a beautiful and updated infrastructure, with a touch of royal beauty in it. The campus combines the two well and is well in touch with the latest technologies.
- Ajmer Military School: The campus is spread in over 92 acres of land and keeps in touch with the rich heritage, along with having one of the best modern infrastructures in the country. General Facilities at Rashtriya Military Schools (RMS)
- All the RMS institution campuses are well-equipped with laboratories, proper residential facilities, dormitories, cadets mess, libraries, and other quintessential facilities.
- Varied activities like Photography, Dramatics, Art & Craft, Wood Work, Music, Debating and Declamation are organised with the aim of helping cadets to make an intelligent use of their leisure time. The schools provide an ample scope for the development of the students’ creative skills in fine arts and crafts.
- NCC Training is compulsory for all the cadets. The schools have Army, Air and Naval Wings of Senior / Junior Division NCC as available and feasible. In addition, Scouting and Trekking are regular features of extracurricular activities.
- The schools have an Ml Room with the presence of Medical Officer / Nursing Assistants. Detailed medical history charts are maintained for individual cadets and a careful and accurate periodical record of height, weight and chest measurements is kept.
Sports Facilities at Rashtriya Military Schools (RMS)
A wide range of sports and games are offered to the cadets, and almost all of these sports and games are embedded in their curriculum. Cadets are coached and trained by experienced and trained Army personnel. All the cadets are encouraged to participate in all of these. The RMS institutions provide facilities for daily games in Football, Hockey, Cricket, Basketball, Volleyball, Table Tennis, Boxing and Athletics. Daily morning P.T. is compulsory for the Cadets.

Rashtriya Military Schools (RMS) Admission Eligibility
The following is the eligibility criteria for admission into the RMS institutions:
- For admission to Class VI a candidate should not be less than 10 years and more than 12 years of age as on 31 March of the year of admission.
- Candidates should have passed Class V for Cass VI from a govt/recognize school before the date of admission. A student studying in Class V is eligible to appear in the respective Entrance Test.
- For admission to Class IX a candidate should not be less than 13 years and more than 15 years of age as on 31 March of the year of admission.
- Candidates should have passed Class VIII for Cass IX from a govt/recognize school before the date of admission. A student studying in Class VIII is eligible to appear in the respective Entrance Test.
Rashtriya Military Schools (RMS) Admission Process
The admission process in RMS institutions is as follows:
- Admission Test: The CET written examination for Class VI & Class IX will be fully Automated through Optical Mark Reader (OMR) based examination.
- Interview: The candidates qualifying the written exam will be short-listed and will be called for an interview. Final merit is decided on the basis of the marks of both the written test and the interview.
- Result: Merit list of successful candidates and the school allotment will be declared by IHQ of MoD (Army).
- Final Selection: Candidates selected in order of merit on the basis of total marks secured by them in the admission test and the interview will be admitted to different Rashtriya Military Schools based on availability of vacancies, medical fitness and as per the reservation norms laid down for various categories. Qualified candidates will be allotted school purely on the basis of Merit and vacancy available in school.
- Medical Test: Finally Selected Candidates will have to undergo medical exam at the Command/Zonal and other Military Hospitals as nominated by the Director General of Medical Services. Prior to admission and only those found medically fit will be offered admission.

Students have to submit the application fee of Rs.600/- only. Rs.300/- for SC/ST along with RMS admission form 2022-23. No admission form will be accepted without the application fee.

Rashtriya Military Schools (RMS) Syllabus and Exam Pattern
- Syllabus: Written test will generally be of Class V standard for Class VI admission and Class VIII standard for Class IX admission. Medium of Question Paper in Entrance exam is English or Hindi for Class VI and only English for Class IX.
- Exam Pattern: In December, the Common Entrance Test for admission to Class VI and IX is held, and it is an automated OMR-based test covering the subjects listed under the heading "ADMISSION TEST."

Reservation in Rashtriya Military Schools (RMS)
The schools have reservation of seats in categories mentioned below
- 70% of seats are reserved for the wards of serving and retired JCOs/OR those in the Army, Navy and Air Force.
- 30% of seats are reserved for the wards of Officers & Civilians.
- 27%, 15% and 7.5% of the seats in each category (excluding Officer Category) are reserved for OBC Non-creamy layer, SC and ST candidates respectively.
- A total of 50 seats (Not more than 15 in either of the school) are earmarked for wards of personal killed in action.

There are a total of 5 RMS located all across the country, namely, Chail Military School in Himachal Pradesh, Ajmer Military School in Rajasthan, Belgaum Military School in Karnataka, Bengaluru Military School in Karnataka, and Dholpur Military School in Rajasthan.
RMS institutions offer education from classes VI to XII. Cadets are admitted into class VI and IX.
Firstly, there’s a written OMR based Admission Test, followed by an Interview Round. The Results of this round lead to the Final Selection stage, which is followed by the last step, the medical Test.
Students in class VIII, are qualified to take the entrance exam for class IX. A candidate for admission to Class IX must have completed Class VIII at a government or accredited school prior to enrolment to a RMS.
